LEED v3 Credit Guide

Earning LEED Credits with Duo-Gard's Collaboration

The credits below show where Duo-Gard's daylighting systems, photovoltaics and specialty structures can help your project earn LEED points across each category.

Category

Sustainable Sites (SS)

SS Credit 4.2 1–2 points
Alternative Transportation

Bicycle Storage and Changing Rooms

Duo-Gard provides secure bicycle storage through custom and standard bike shelters, racks and accessories that integrate solar and LED technologies, along with bus shelters and specialized outdoor structures.

SS Credit 7.1 1 point
Heat Island Effect, Nonroof

Structures must provide a solar reflective index (SRI) of minimum 29. Duo-Gard's translucent canopies, walkways and special structures can meet this requirement, and photovoltaic canopies provide shading over parking and surfaces to reduce heat absorption.

SS Credit 7.1 1 point
Heat Island Effect, Roof

Use materials with SRI 29 for steep-sloped or SRI 78 for low-sloped roofs covering a minimum of 75% of surface area. Duo-Gard's translucent roof systems can be engineered for compliance.

SS Credit 8 1 point
Light Pollution Reduction

Minimize trespass of interior lighting to the outside. Duo-Gard's translucent skylights, walls, ceilings and accents are engineered to diffuse direct-beam light without additional shielding.

Category

Energy and Atmosphere (EA)

EA Prerequisite 2 Required
Minimum Energy Performance

Improve building performance by 10% for new construction or 5% for major renovations using ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2007. Duo-Gard's high-performance daylighting systems achieve high insulating values with maximum diffused light transmission while reducing solar heat gain and winter heat loss, supported by complimentary daylight modeling services and photovoltaic systems.

EA Credit 1 1–21 points
Optimize Energy Performance

Improve whole-building energy efficiency by 8%–48% beyond the prerequisite standard, depending on construction type. Duo-Gard offers double-glazing, IR coatings, LED strategies and Lumira® insulating aerogel, with daylight modeling and photovoltaic systems to assure success.

EA Credit 2 1–7 points
On-Site Renewable Energy

Encourage increasing levels of on-site renewable energy from 1%–13% of annual energy costs. Duo-Gard systems provide building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) solutions.

EA Credit 6 2 points
Green Power

Encourage grid-source renewable energy technologies on a net-zero pollution basis, with owners contracting for a minimum of 35% renewable electricity. Duo-Gard's on-site solar photovoltaic systems help achieve this goal economically.

Materials and Resources (MR)

MR Credit 1 & 1.1 1–5 points
Building Reuse

Maintain Existing Walls, Floors & Roof

Maintain existing building structure and envelope. Duo-Gard's overglazing systems cover existing walls, windows and skylights without demolition while increasing energy efficiency and updating appearances.

MR Credit 4 1–2 points
Recycled Content

Use materials with 10% or 20% post-consumer plus ½ pre-consumer recycled content. Duo-Gard's multiwall polycarbonates contain 20–40% pre-consumer recycled content upon request. Polycarbonates and aluminum are completely recyclable, as is Lumira® insulating aerogel (C2C Certified).

MR Credit 5 1–2 points
Regional Materials

Use a minimum of 10%–20% of materials extracted, harvested, recovered or manufactured within 500 miles of the site. All systems are manufactured in Canton, Michigan.

Qualifying states within the required radius:

Arkansas Connecticut Illinois Indiana Kentucky Massachusetts Michigan Minnesota Missouri New Hampshire New Jersey New York North Carolina Ohio Pennsylvania South Dakota Vermont Virginia West Virginia Wisconsin

Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ)

IEQ Prerequisite 2 Required
Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) Control

Prevent or eliminate exposure to environmental tobacco smoke. Duo-Gard pioneered the smoking shelter in 1990, offering standard and custom styles compliant with the “25 feet from entrances” requirement.

IEQ Credit 2 1 point
Increased Ventilation

Include additional ventilation from outdoor air. Duo-Gard's daylighting systems can integrate operable sections providing ventilation.

IEQ Credit 6.2 1 point
Controllability of Systems, Thermal Comfort

Provide individual temperature control or operable windows for 50% of occupants. Duo-Gard's translucent daylighting systems can be engineered with operable sections for individual comfort.

IEQ Credit 7.1 1 point
Thermal Comfort, Design

Create a comfortable thermal environment for occupants. Duo-Gard's high-performance daylighting integrates polycarbonates for high diffused light transmission without glare or solar heat gain, coupled with proprietary gasketed structural framing for minimal heat loss/gain and the lowest U-values.

IEQ Credit 8.1 1–3 points
Daylight and Views, Daylight

Provide daylighting for 75% of regularly occupied spaces, with another point for 90%. Duo-Gard systems deliver diffused daylight without glare or solar heat gain and without additional shading requirements.

IEQ Credit 8.2 1 point
Daylight and Views, Views

Provide outside views for 90% of regularly occupied spaces. Visibility and ventilating sections integrate easily into Duo-Gard's custom systems.

Innovation in Design (ID)

ID Credit 1 1–5 points
Innovation in Design

Recognize exemplary performance that goes beyond LEED's requirements and/or achieves innovative performance in other green building categories. New options include Lumira® insulating aerogel, IR coatings and BIPV panels. Duo-Gard's Daylight Modeling Service enables designers to explore scenarios for innovative solutions, and their consulting approach with designers, engineers and fabricators contributes to efficiency, aesthetics, performance and LEED certification.
